Dr Zachary Ardern

Research fellow in evolutionary genomics, Cambridge

Zachary is a research fellow in evolutionary genomics at an institute in Cambridge, investigating the origins and evolution of protein-coding genes in microbes. His undergraduate studies at the University of Auckland, New Zealand, were in philosophy, economics, and biology; his PhD was on the topic of experimental evolution. Since completing his thesis in 2017 he has been a postdoctoral researcher in evolutionary genomics in Germany and the UK.

Zachary has spoken in diverse settings in Europe, the UK, and New Zealand on topics of science and Christian faith, for churches, student, and skeptic groups. He was awarded the Christians in Science Oliver Barclay lectureship in 2023, recognising his work in this area. He is a Fellow of the International Society for Science and Religion.

He is willing to travel or to give talks online, and to craft an outreach talk in a way which is helpful for your setting.

Approximately 20 published academic articles in science or the philosophy of science are listed on Zachary Ardern’s website. He is currently working on a book with Dr Rope Kojonen on the topic of evolution and design arguments.
