Vicar of St Peter Mancroft, Norwich

Edward has been Vicar of St Peter Mancroft Church in Norwich since 2018, having previously been Canon Theologian at Chelmsford Cathedral, a parish priest in Oxfordshire, and a Minor Canon at St George’s Windsor. Prior to ordination he worked for small companies and ran his own business.

He is Chair of the ecumenical Church Investors Group, which has some 70 members with combined funds under management of around £20bn. His research interests include a theology of enterprise, and his hobbies include board-games, volleyball, creating acrylic resin art, and film-making. He is married to Sarah and they have two adult sons.

Enterprise and Theology
Looking at the possible theological basis for human enterprise in its various forms. Consideration is given to secular theories of enterprise, the practical characteristics of entrepreneurial behaviour, as well as key theological themes. A tentative conclusion is explored: that human enterprise does have a part to play within God’s purposes for creation.
Ethical Investing and the Church’s Money
This lecture tells the story of the Church of England’s funds and the formation of the Ethical Investment Advisory Group (EIAG) in 1994, as well as the ecumenical Church Investors Group (CIG). The moral issues are discussed, and the theological rationale for investing in a particular way is considered. The lecture will include a number of case studies drawn from the work of the EIAG and the CIG.
Ordinary Theology and the God Movie Project
This talk considers the subject of ‘ordinary theology’ as pioneered by Jeff Astley and others. The theme is illustrated with reference to the God Movie Project (GMP), which Edward created in 2013.
